Growing up, my parents were fond of ferreting out those mom-and-pop eateries. As fate would have it, I wound up with a double dose of the “hole-in-the-wall” gene. This means, of course, though I’ve dined at some great places, I get giddy when I eat well in places that’d never end up in fancy guidebooks or newspapers.

Living out here between San Antonio and Boerne, there are a couple of such places. My favorite among them, however, is Flagstop Cafe. Yup, I like to eat at a gas station/convenience store/carwash/grill combo. And I really like to eat breakfast there on a weekend morning–along with about half of Fair Oaks, Texas.

On a recent March mid-week morning, I got the idea to treat Tater Tot and myself to a full-fledged brunch of Flagstop breakfast tacos and pancakes. On the way out the door, I grabbed the camera, too. Here’s what I came back with (besides a full belly):
